When your child asks for sweets or snacks after school or in between play or homework and of course lets not forget before bedtime occasionally 🙂. You might think a savoury snack is better for their teeth right? After all they don’t contain added sugar and therefore won’t harm their delicate pearly whites…
Think again mummies and daddies! Savoury snacks like crisps are starchy foods meaning they break down into sugars. They become soft / sticky when chewed therefore the tiny bits stay lodged in between their teeth longer, feeding the bacteria on the surfaces of your little ones’ teeth causing acid enamel erosion.
So how can you help your child snack better for their teeth?
Fruit and vegetables are the best but if you simply don’t have time to chop up a bunch then offer packaged snacks twice a day max. Give them either a drink of water to wash it down, a small piece of cheese (Yes, you read it right!) or help them brush an hour afterwards to neutralise the acidity after eating.
