NHS vs Private Dental care

NHS Dental Care

NHS dentistry focuses on essential care to maintain your oral health. It covers treatments that are clinically necessary, such as:

  • Check-ups
  • Fillings
  • Extractions
  • Crowns and dentures (where needed for health reasons)

While partially funded by the NHS, treatment is not entirely free (unless you’re exempt), and costs are divided into three price bands.

Due to limited NHS funding and high demand, we’re not always able to offer NHS places to all patients. This is a national issue and something we, like many other practices, have to manage carefully to ensure safe and fair care.

Private Dental Care

Private dentistry offers greater flexibility and a broader range of treatment options, including:

  • Cosmetic treatments like whitening and composite bonding
  • Longer appointment times
  • Access to a wider selection of materials and techniques
  • More flexibility with booking times

Private care isn’t funded by the NHS, but it doesn’t always mean a big cost difference. In fact, many of our routine services — including check-ups and hygiene appointments — are available at a small additional charge from NHS fees, with clear, upfront pricing.

Can I Still See a Dentist If NHS Places Are Full?

Yes — you don’t need to be an NHS patient to access care. Even if we cannot offer you an NHS place at this time, you are still very welcome to see one of our dentists privately. This gives you continued access to high-quality care without the wait.
