This is a sore subject for millions of people. Symptoms of sensitive teeth are usually sharp pains usually when eating or drinking something cold or hot. Although the pain might only be brief, it’s well worth going to see your dentist about it as it may be a sign of underlying problems.
Sensitive teeth is caused by
- Enamel erosion that exposes the softer dentine below
- Receding gums
- Cracked teeth or fillings
- Tooth bleaching (normally temporary)
- Teeth grinding
To prevent it in the first place or stop it from getting worse you can:
Minimise tooth erosion: be careful about drinking and eating acidic food (Check out our last FB post).
Brush twice a day and floss but do not brush your teeth too hard or for too long as this wears tooth enamel.
Don’t ignore it and let your dentist know. He/she can recommend a course of action.
Finally, make sure you purchase a good quality fluoride toothpaste. Check the label with an optimum fluoride level of 1,450 parts per million and potassium nitrate as the active ingredient to help reduce teeth sensitivity.
