We all know that sugar is bad for our teeth. So hands up if you’ve brushed your teeth straightaway after eating something sweet?
OOPS! Unfortunately this is not recommended at all. Brushing your teeth immediately after eating or drinking something sugary will spread the sugar around your mouth which may make things worse. The acidity caused by the sugar softens the enamel which means you are at risk of damaging your teeth further by brushing technique.
It is often debated whether to brush before or after breakfast. We would recommend that it is best done before breakfast and to rinse your mouth with plain water when you are finished, to help neutralise the acidity and to help remove food debris.
In any event you should not brush your teeth within 30 minutes of eating and not more than 2-3 times a day. And now you know.
