As if the plethora of different types of toothbrushes is not confusing enough, we have the added choice of soft, medium or firm bristles to choose from. So before your head explodes with confusion we can help you choose the toothbrush that is right for you.
You should consider comfort and how vigorously you brush your teeth. If it hurts when you brush your teeth you are probably brushing too enthusiastically (it’s not a race) or are using a toothbrush with bristles that are too firm. Most dentists would recommend soft bristles so you can remove plaque and bits of food without damaging teeth and gums. However, hard bristles may be a bit better at removing plaque but are too abrasive and can actually cause gum recession and lesions. Not ideal.
So our advice is to go with a soft toothbrush and to brush regularly with a good quality toothpaste. And remember – gently does it!
Now the next big question – Do you wet the toothbrush before you brush or don’t you?
