Tooth erosion?

This sounds a bit more like geology than biology but listen up because this is important! Tooth or acid erosion happens when acids present in some food and drink weaken the enamel on your teeth. The enamel can not be replaced, so if you let this get out of hand your teeth are in serious trouble.

So here are some simple tips to help prevent this from happening.

  1. Keep an eye on what you are eating. You don’t have to give up all acidic foods (fruit can be acidic but is also good for you). But try not to graze on these all day to minimise the impact and perhaps finish with cheese, or a drink of milk to help neutralise the acidity.
  2. When drinking acidic drinks use a straw so the fluid misses your teeth altogether. Use a biodegradable straw and you save the planet win-win.
  3. Floss and brush your teeth twice a day as part of a healthy dental routine.
  4. Last but not least: see your dentist and or your hygienist every 6 months for regular check ups and cleaning.
